COLOMBIA

When I tell people that I am traveling to Colombia, very few were surprised. I think by now people almost expect me to go to places some tourists won't go. For me though, this is not about fun and vacation, it's more than that. My friend Abby is spending the summer working in Bogotá as in intern. I am very much looking forward to exploring Bogotá and drinking lots of café con leche. What most excites me is being able to see what Abby is doing and help out for a week. On Saturday we are going on an outing with a group of kids- that should be fun.
Why Colombia?
I really don't know. Yes, I know it is not the safest place to go. I will admit, I am a little scared. The past few years, I have ran into so many different people from Colombia and are now some of my dearest friends. They always talk about their country and the misconceptions the rest of the world has of Colombia. As soon as I heard Abby was going to be there, I knew I wanted to visit. I did not decide until a few weeks back to go. I was afraid, mostly of what my parents would say. I knew they would be worried and didn't want to do that to them. At the same time, I could not get away from it and knew that I had to go.
I am looking forward to my summer and what God has in store. After I return from Colombia I will be back in the USA for one week and then am off to Spain.
While in Spain I will be working with the YMCA and and Orphanage in Salamanca. I am also happy that a family I know is starting a church there as well. It will be an exciting summer. Keep me in your prayers.
